Loch Ba.

Start. Knock.

Route. Knock - Sron a' Chrann-Lithe - Glen Clachaig - Knockantivore - Glen Clachaig - Sron a' Chrann-Lithe - Knock.

Notes. Stroll along the shore of Loch Ba into the mountains and enjoy wild unspoiled mountainous views of central Mull without a demanding climb, on a wet Mull day it seemed a good idea. The track along the shore of Loch Ba makes for easy walking, if you wish to go higher it marks the start of two mountain through routes which cross high passes, for us today the valley will do.

After parking at Knock our route followed the rough track to Benmore Lodge cutting through the trees of the Benmore Estate, we emerged from the tree cover on the shore of freshwater Loch Ba with the slopes of Beinn a Ghraig rising to our right. What followed was a straight forward ramble with our eyes scanning the loch and hillsides for the resident Sea Eagles and Deer, alas it was even too wet for them.

At the mouth of Glen Clachaig we turned left at a track junction, a bridge aided our crossing of the River Clachaig before reaching the Fishing Lodge at Knockantivore. After a considerable amount of bog hopping to avoid a ford we passed the fishing lodge hunting for somewhere dry to have a brew, in the end we re-traced our steps to the lodge and utilised their facilities (picnic tables). Brew over with more heavy weather sweeping down Glen Cannel we picked ourselves up and hastily re-traced our steps, with less than a mile to go the weather overtook us, a very wet end to what turned out to be a fairly pleasant outing.
